Tyrone McFarlane & Daisy Grunfeld
Founders of Stroud Boxing Club
I’m Tyrone McFarlane, founder and Head Coach of Stroud Boxing Club. I’m a Level 2 England Boxing Coach and have been a qualified Personal Trainer since 2014. I had a number of amateur boxing bouts before injury forced me to step away from competition, which gave me first-hand experience of the physical and mental demands of the sport. My coaching is performance-led and built around strong fundamentals, footwork, balance, defence, conditioning, and proper ring craft. I’m passionate about developing boxers the right way, from grassroots through to competition, while always putting the long-term wellbeing of the athlete first. Just as important to me is the community we’ve built at Stroud Boxing Club. I believe boxing has the power to change lives, build confidence, and bring people together. My aim is to create a respectful, inclusive environment where everyone feels supported, challenged, and proud to be part of the club.
Daisy Grunfeld is a qualified Personal Trainer and a core part of Stroud Boxing Club. Alongside coaching, Daisy runs much of the behind-the-scenes operations of the club, managing administration, organisation, and day-to-day systems that keep everything running smoothly. She is passionate about helping people feel stronger, more confident, and capable in their training and loves pushing clients to achieve more than they thought possible. Daisy has a particular focus on lower-body and glute training, helping clients build strength, shape, and confidence through smart, effective programming. If your goal is to feel stronger and more powerful from the ground up, she’s the coach for you! Balancing her role at the club with raising their two children, Daisy plays a vital role in both the business and the community that Stroud Boxing Club has become.

Lisa Hardy
Club Secretary
I first got involved with Stroud Boxing Club after starting Personal Training with Tyrone. As a woman over 50 I’m passionate about representing middle-aged women in fitness – especially when it comes to strength training. It’s not just about boxing; it’s about building confidence, staying strong, and being part of a supportive community. In my role as Club Secretary, I help keep things organised – booking committee meetings, setting agendas, and taking minutes. I also organise our social events (some might say this is my priority), from our launch party and Christmas celebrations to casual meet ups like Saturday morning coffee at Coffee Lada or post-class drinks at Fresh Standard Brewery – our Merrett’s Mill neighbours. I love welcoming new members and helping them feel part of the club. I was proud to help greet our attendees at our first Parkinson’s Class, which was a big step in making the club more inclusive. Behind the scenes, I support Tyrone and Daisy with all aspects of running the club – admin, childcare, marketing ideas – you name it. It’s a real team effort, and I’m proud to be part of something that empowers people at every stage of life.

Lois Smith
Club Safeguarding & Welfare Officer
With a background in educational leadership, I bring my experience as a Headteacher, with expertise in safeguarding and special educational needs, into my roles at the club. Creating safe, inclusive environments where both children and adults can grow and thrive is at the heart of everything I do.As Director and Club Welfare Officer, I make sure that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and that all children and young people at the club are protected, supported, and able to enjoy boxing in a safe and positive environment. I also care deeply about creating a safe and welcoming space where every member can learn the skills of boxing, but also grow in confidence and resilience as part of our supportive SBC community.

Louise Parker
England Boxing Coach
I started boxing in 2011 and had a great experience being part of Marlow ABC. After that, life took over! A baby, work, and family naturally became the priority, and boxing took a back step for a while. Over the last year, I’ve found my way back into training, and discovering Stroud Boxing Gym was a real turning point for me. It’s such a friendly, supportive gym with a strong community focus, where everyone is made to feel welcome. Alongside coaching, I’m a secondary school teacher and passionate about helping young people realise their potential, helping them to build confidence, feel strong, and develop skills through positive, supportive coaching, no matter where they’re starting from. It’s a privilege to be part of the coaching team at Stroud Boxing Club.

Lee Ward
England Boxing Coach
As a relative latecomer to boxing, I began my fitness journey with Stroud Boxing when the gym first opened in June 2024. At the time, I was overweight with a BMI of 32, dealing with high blood pressure and a long-term knee injury.
Thanks to the welcoming and supportive environment created by Tyrone, Daisy and the wider team, I was able to fully commit to training, regain control of my health, and work on developing my boxing skills along the way.
That experience sparked a real passion for coaching and wanting to pass those skills on to others, helping to build an inclusive gym environment — one where boxing isn’t just for people who want to fight, but for anyone who wants to get fit, gain confidence, and learn something new.

Clive Noble
England Boxing Coach
I'm Clive Noble , I recently passed my England Boxing Level 1 coaching qualification after a long absence from the sport.
I began my boxing career as a 14-year-old at Roxburgh House Boxing Club in 1980. I had quite a few amateur bouts and enjoyed every minute, win or lose.
I stopped boxing when other commitments came around but still played football and rugby into my late forties.
After a career change in 2020 I had a lot more free time; I noticed a post on Facebook about a new boxing club starting in Stroud. It sparked something in me, and I started training with the club. My grandson then asked about coming along to the juniors, and before long I was helping out with them, which I loved. It was then a natural progression to acquire a qualification so I could get more involved. It feels great to be part of such a friendly team. Thanks to Tyrone and Daisy for making me feel 16 again.

Charlie Freyne
England Boxing Coach
I’ve had an interest in combat sports for as long as I can remember. I have experience in multiple sports and different martial art styles. I find boxing to be one of the most effective and versatile martial arts somebody can do. Boxing is a sport where no matter what attributes someone may possess, there will always be a way to be successful. By making a style that will suit your body type, as long as your mind is in the right place, you will be able to win.
My family and I moved to Stroud in December 2023. I met Tyrone shortly after when I was looking for a gym to continue boxing. It’s been a privilege to see the growth of SBC from concept to reality, which is a gym that now has a large community and a wonderful atmosphere. I’m honoured to be part of the team.
